Students will learn to do the Salutation part which is called Namaskaram. By doing so, the dancer asks Mother Earth for forgiveness for stepping on her with feet. This is a ritual we always do before starting a dance session. After the Namaskaram, students will be taught the basic foot movements called the Taatta Adavus. There are eight types of foot movements practiced in three speeds. After the foot movements, students will be taught the hand movements coordinated with foot movements called the Naatta Adavus. There are again eight different varieties of Naatta Adavus.
