Class Experience

Join this class to build community in a small group while learning important pre-kindergarten and kindergarten skills through regular weekly activities! Each qualified Outschool educator brings unique gifts and talents to share with your learner, but they are all fun, energetic, and engaging. Signing up for this pod means access to all educators within our team via one single Outschool classroom -- no need to shuffle between Zoom links. Welcome to Bright Horizons Academy. We will meet 25 minutes a day, two to three days a week, and cover many subjects each week. Each week will have a different theme that all the classes will emphasize in some way. Themes include: (they may change as we go) Zoo, superhero, jungle, sports, forest, spring, ocean, Teddy bear picnic This course alternates between Monday/Wednesday/Friday instruction and Tuesday/Thursday instruction. Here is the schedule for the first 4 weeks of class. Additional sections will follow the same schedule. Week 1: Monday: Reading Wednesday: Math & Science Friday: Spanish Week 2: Tuesday: Circle Time Thursday: Craft and Music Week 3: Monday: Reading Wednesday: Math & Science Friday: Spanish Week 4: Tuesday: Circle Time Thursday: Craft and Music Math/Science I will be demonstrating the math game or science experiment using a second camera. Some weeks will be only math and other weeks will be only science. If I can do both in a lesson, even better! It is helpful if the learners know their numbers and can count. I will tailor the lesson to the level of the students. Most of the math concepts are based on Kindergarten/First Grade Standards. Sometimes I will share a PowerPoint presentation. The learners will be doing the project/game with us. There will be a list of supplies for each lesson, most of which can be found in your house. A supply list will be sent out with enough notice that items can be bought before class. Circle Time/Deep dive into the weekly theme Learners will practice early learner fundamentals along with exploring our weekly theme. These lessons will offer a variety of ways to learn: songs, stories, class discussions, games, and fun activity sheets we will do in class. Learners will need crayons or markers, a glue stick, and on occasion scissors. Reading In reading class, we will learn to read and write cvc words from a different word family each week. We will use decodable stories, worksheets, and games to learn and reinforce these new skills. This class is ideal for learners who aren’t reading yet but are showing interest, as well as those students who have learned some sounds and possibly some beginning reading skills but need to continue to build a strong foundation for reading. Printable stories, worksheets, and flashcards will be uploaded in the classroom each week. These printouts are optional, though I encourage everyone to have the worksheet for class.
