Class Experience
My First Piano Adventure is my absolute favorite lesson course for new-to-piano or transfer students around the late 5 into 8 range! I love the series’ colorful pictures and stories kids relate to. Through this series, young beginners learn important foundational piano-playing concepts: proper finger-hand-arm posture and movement, letter key names, basic rhythms, and successively challenging series of note reading patterns! In this trial class: -New students will explore different sounds (soft and loud, high and low), learn about good hand posture, identify two and three black keys, and play rhythm games and activities! -Transfer students will meet Ms. Grace, pick up where they are with notes/rhythms, and be directed to My First Piano Adventure curriculum A, B, C or other course classes.
This is an introduction to piano for early beginners using the Pianimals Book A. This course/method book series is probably the most easily understood piano method around. I have had amazing success with young children at the piano using these books. Objectives:
1. Students will play for the teacher, if they have learned any pieces yet and feel comfortable doing so. I am trying to get an idea of what they know and of what they are capaple.
2. Proper positioning at the keyboard.
3. Finger numbers
4. Note names
5. Keyboard geography ( where high and low sounds, up and down on the keyboard)
6. What is a pitch
7. Beginning note reading starts, introducing note values (e.g. what is a quarter note)
8. Volume levels are introduced (playing loud and soft on the keyboard or piano)
9. Students learn to play by copying the teacher and by pre-reading music.
10. Review what we have learned so far by playing for each other and discussing what we have learned.
