In this course the students will be introduced to Bollywood freestyle dance. Bollywood dance is the dance-form used in the Indian films. It is a mixture of numerous styles. These styles include belly-dancing, kathak, Indian folk, Western popular, and modern jazz.
In this primary Bollywood dance class, both girls and boys will enjoy exploring Bollywood dance in an exciting and imaginative four-week course.
Students will work on improving strength, coordination, musicality, and creativity, while building a solid foundation in this dance technique.
This class is structured for both experienced and non-dancers and no dance experience is needed to take the class. On the last day of this course, student will have a chance to perform their work to their family at home.
Class Structure:
During the classes, students follow along with me to practice dance steps before performing each step with the music. When the dance steps are new, I will perform the steps with the students and as they belong to feel confident with the setting on their own, they will practice the dance steps while she watches. At a few points in the class, students will be given a chance to be creative and put forward a step from their own imagination.
Content of the course:
- Warm Up- Dancers will practice large arm and leg movements to warm up their muscles before moving to precise and fine movements.
- Legs and Feet- Dancers will use floor work to focus on strengthening their legs and feets.
- Hands and Arms: Dancers will learn to articulate their hands and fingers. Basic arm positions are introduced with the emphasis being on learning how to shape and move their arms.
- Creative/Free Movement: Dancers will engage in dance steps that allow them to choose their own movements and characterizations to help develop their artistic expression.
- Musicality: Dancers will explore how their dancing connects with the music through counting.
- Stretching: Dancers will perform gentle stretches standing and on the floor as part of their cool down at the end of classes.
